New Hampshire TechFest 2009
| As a member of the FIRST community, Team 241 knows that it is our duty to spread the love for science and technology to as many people as possible. The team decided that the best way we could use our resources to reach the most amount of people was to put on NHTechfest. (www.nhtechfest.org) Click here to see the Image Gallery. |
This event took over 6 months to plan and organize. NHTechFest was an all-day extravaganza of enlightening science and technology demonstrations, hands-on activities, and overall cool experiences. The main event was an apple-tossing Trebuchet contest, featuring teams of middle and high school students from throughout New England. |

We invited all middle and high school students and their parents to join us in a day of discovery and learning in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Along with multiple interactive mini-workshops like Segway Rides and Driving FRC Robots, there were displays and demonstrations of the latest developments in science and technology including robotics, industrial machines, safety devices, and research equipment. Many scientific and technical organizations was also on hand to educate students and parents about educational and career opportunities.

The Astros partnered with over forty companies and organizations from around New Hampshire to put on the show. Each event exhibitor set up a booth in our field house and had ten minute demonstrations and/or activities for the attendees. We also had various speakers, such as engineering teachers, an epidemiologist, and a video game programming professor for 20-minute lectures in our lecture hall.

The final portion of the event was a Trebuchet Contest. We had 12 teams from New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts compete in an accuracy contests with their catapults, attempting to hit the center of a bulls-eye that were sixty feet away with a six ounce apple. Instead of giving away trophies or medals, our top prizes were tool bundles donated by Tire Warehouse. By giving out the tools, the winning teams could further their education in engineering and science with their prize. Due to our generous sponsors (BAE Systems, Tire Warehouse, IEEE and Macs Apples) we were able to make this event free to the public. Over 700 people were in attendance and we had all positive feed back about our inaugural event, and hope to make it an annual event for Team 241.
